July 20, 2010
Hi!

Love Quote

"Love is like a mountain, hard to climb, but once you get to the top the view is beautiful!" ~Daniel Monroe Tuttle

"Love is a decision, not an emotion or feeling, that if made from the heart will outlast anything." ~Raul and Samantha Juarez

Bible Quote

"Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. Love does not demand its own way. Love is not irritable, and it keeps no record of when it has been wronged." ~1 Cor. 13:4,5 (NLT)

The practical side of love is expressed when the feelings of romance have gone.

Our quotes today describe a love that isn’t often the topic of the radio’s top ten love songs! Passion, sexual desire, and romantic bliss may all come and go, ebb and flow—but true love is a decision not based on emotion. True love prompts you to do things for your spouse that are kind, thoughtful, and just right to do!

  • Make an unexpected phone call and say you were just thinking of them.
  • Leave 5 notes around the house saying “I Love You!” (remember to number them…)
  • What surprise act of kindness will illustrate your love for your husband or wife? Doing the dishes, polishing the shoes, cleaning the house?
  • Is it time to draw a heart and write a love note on the bathroom mirror?
  • Rekindle the romance: scented candles and a sexy negligee for him; a card, small gift and chocolates for her?
The good thing about your elusive romantic feelings? You can make them come back!

Try some of the practical actions of love!

28 Years!

Where has the time gone!?

1982, the same year that the extraterrestrial--E.T., the newspaper--USA Today, and late night TV show--David Letterman all made their debut—is the year we were married!

We just celebrated our 28th wedding anniversary last week! (Here is a photo of our family at our son's wedding in April 2010. Aren't we blessed?!!)

Honestly, our married life has been filled with joy and happiness despite the difficult times, struggles, and challenges that life will inevitably bring.

Just today we were directed to a song written by an artist who wrote the song just after celebrating his 15th Wedding Anniversary. Read his story and watch the YouTube video by clicking on the link below. You’ll love it, as we did!

Marriage Tip: Multi-Tasking Date Nights!

The vast majority of the several thousand intimacy surveys we received indicate that couples’ lives are rushed, and that husbands and wives often don’t connect in the meaningful ways that promote intimacy.

Many years ago, Carrie and I attended a marriage seminar with Terry and Esa Everroad. Terry and Esa suggested something that we applied and have used for years: a weekly “husband-wife meeting"... like a date night with multi-tasking!

This is basically what we did:

  • Got a binder to record/journal progress in the areas we were working on in our relationship.
  • Set up the binder with these suggested sections:
    • demonstrating respect for each other;
    • romantic exercises;
    • dealing with conflict;
    • finances;
    • children.
Keep the night romantic and enjoyable, and then talk about issues when you are both in a positive constructive frame of mind. Remember, the primary goal is relationship development!
