Our Valentine's Day 2010 Contest
Romance is in the air with Valentine's Day coming up ... and to celebrate, we held a Valentine's Day 2010 contest! The first place prize was sponsored by Simply Sweet Marriage and included a combo pack of unique massage oil/candle and a heart-shaped massager kit.
2nd place prize was a free copy of our popular e-book, "The 7-Day Sex Challenge".
Participants in the contest let us know how they hoped to celebrate Valentine's Day 2010 with their spouse! We ranked submissions based on romantic creativity and the potential each idea for celebrating had for deepening intimacy in the marriage relationship. The contest closed on January 31, 2010.
Congratulations to Katie who placed First in the contest! Here is Katie's winning entry: My husband and I were married last year at the end of February, so I was not expecting much in the way of Valentine's because we were both so busy planning and getting ready. Also, he is not big into surprises. He doesn't often give flowers, and he is not always the most sentimental person in the world. But he listens to little things I say, particularly about things I would love to do or have. At Christmas last year, I mentioned how I would love to go on a carriage ride through the city. I never thought he would pick up on it. However, I was soo wrong :)
On Valentine's Day, he surprised me by taking me to one of our favorite restaurants, and then on a midnight carriage ride. It was beautiful, and romantic. He gave me a special bouquet made up of my favorite flowers, and proceeded to tell me exactly what had made him fall in love with me, and why he wanted to spend his life with me. He said that he wanted this to become a special tradition. He wanted to take a midnight carriage ride every Valentine's Day, and he always wanted to take that night in particular to express his love for me. He made me feel special, and loved, and it showed how much he truly cared for me.My husband has said that the best way to show my love for him was by acts of service. He loves having a clean home, and to spend quality time together, even though going out of town or on little trips together is not always feasible.
My plan this year is to create our own "Romantic Getaway" in our home. We love candles and romantic music. With a couple of glasses of Sparkling Cider, a fire, and some jazzy tunes, I know I will be able to express my love in the same way he did for me. He is my very best friend, and I feel lucky to have him in my life. Showing him my love is easy because I have so much love for him. I thank God everyday for giving me the opportunity to grow and learn with my husband, and I am forever grateful to him for bringing my husband into my life.
Congratulations to Daniel who placed Second in the contest! Here is Daniel's winning entry: Awaken to the new day, fresh and bright. Holding her, rouse her with a back massage and tender kiss, and with heart overflowing, whisper in her ear, prayers of thanks to our God for the amazing and wonderful gift of His Daughter, my best friend, my gorgeous wife. Then, present the first of a series of 12 simple gifts, each individually wrapped (as appropriate), and each with a hand-made paper rose, lightly spritzed with my cologne.
Prepare breakfast, dining with curtains open, allowing the warmth of the sunlight to stream in, and table candles lit.
Then church (more expressions of thankfulness!), and a day walking in the park, in the gardens, or a drive to the coast (and maybe a simple picnic!). And throughout, continuing the 12 gifts of St. Valentines. These small gifts will hopefully entice reminiscence of the years of our friendship, engagement, and this first year of marriage. By the end of this day, she shall hold a bouquet of a dozen roses, each holding a fragrant souvenir of her husband's love.
